Five Year Plans

The following are good examples of detailed five year plans that clearly present a plan for all aspects of the library . . .

A five year plan should, at the very least, include the following elements:

  • A vision or mission statement that identifies the goal of the five year plan
  • Identify the key areas or issues that will be addressed by the five year plan (Examples: library materials collections, library services and programs, library policies and procedures, facilities, technology, staffing/personnel, administration, outreach)
  • Identify a goal for improvement or enhancement of the key areas or issues
  • Clearly define a plan of action for the key areas or issues
  •  Present a plan for each key area or issue over a five year period (i. e., for year one of the plan, present goals and plan of action for each key area then do the same for the remaining four years)
